The freeride safety check enhances your off-piste expertise and experience. The course covers the observation of the great outdoors and the terrain and teaches methods that can be used to better assess risks. Together with a mountain guide, you practice the individual steps involved in avalanche searches. The professional framework provided for this, is offered by the permanent PIEPS avalanche training search field on the Grasjoch. We will allocate you all the emergency equipment for the course. The adjacent Freeride Centre will give us information about the latest weather and snow conditions. This will also provide you with useful tips for your off-piste excursions with friends.

  • Meet at the Valisera cable car valley station at 07.45
  • The PIEPS rental equipment is handed out (rucksack, avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe included in the price)
  • Explanation and check of the avalanche transceivers
  • Depending on the snow and weather conditions: first tracks with the guide in the Grasjoch area, avalanche training, triggering of an ABS avalanche airbag, snow profile explanation and presentation of various freeride routes
  • The session ends at the Grasjochhütte mountain lodge at 12.30

Participation conditions
Freeride skis or snowboard, helmet, good parallel turning skills
The freeride safety check is suitable for all ages.
