MTT – From the finish line straight to the next challenge
The starting
When it started, I stuck to my tried-and-tested tactic: don't waste too much energy at the beginning, because the second section of the course is much tougher. The high steps after the Garfrescha refreshment station in particular really take it out of your muscles. I had learned from last year's mistakes: drink regularly, use your poles efficiently and think in stages.
On the track
I felt good – my preparation had gone well and the weather was perfect: sunny but not too hot. I knew that my family and friends would be waiting for me at the finish line. Nevertheless, at Garfrescha, I realised that I was behind my 2024 time. Now I had to give it my all. For the next climb, I mobilised every reserve and ran as best I could, even on the flatter sections.
The goal – and the emotions
In the end, the clock stopped at 2 hours and 5 minutes. At first, I felt a slight pang of disappointment – I had missed my target. But at the same time, I was proud of myself for completing the Montafon Totale mountain run again and maintaining my performance from the previous year. Just a few seconds later, the joy of conquering the course prevailed. The goal for 2026 has already been set: the Montafon Totale Trail, covering 16 kilometres and 1,450 metres of elevation gain.
