Alessandro Hämmerle to receive a second gondola at the Valisera Cable Car
A great honour for a true legend of winter sport: Alessandro Hämmerle, the local hero from the Montafon, has been honoured again with his very own gondola on the Valisera cable car in recognition of his second Olympic gold medal in snowboard cross. The gondola was officially handed over during a lively ceremony at the Valisera cable car in St. Gallenkirch.
This special moment was accompanied by the St. Gallenkirch and Gaschurn Town Band, the Montafon winter sports clubs, as well as numerous supporters, fans and guests of honour. Numerous representatives from the tourism sector and the region were also present to congratulate the exceptional athlete in person: Andreas Zudrell, member of the supervisory board of Montafon Tourism; Michael Junginger, head of marketing at Montafon Tourism; Peter Marko, managing director of Silvretta Montafon; as well as Lisi Kuster, mayor of St. Gallenkirch, and Daniel Sandrell, mayor of Gaschurn, took part in the ceremony. The occasion was made particularly emotional by the presence of Alessandro Hämmerle’s family, who were able to celebrate this special moment together with him.
With the gondola at the Valisera Bahn, Alessandro Hämmerle receives a visible symbol of his achievements – right in the heart of the ski resort where his sporting journey began. Silvretta Montafon is thus sending a strong signal of the close connection between top-level sport and the region.
This second Olympic victory once again highlights Hämmerle’s extraordinary career and his tireless dedication. His achievements are not only sporting milestones, but also an inspiration for the next generation and the entire winter sports community in the Montafon.
