Kälbersee via ferrata

The practice via ferrata

Difficulty level: A/B/C/D

Ascent: 15 minutes

To access this via ferrata, take the Hochjoch cable car and then follow walking route 4 (Seetalwanderung) from the Sennigrat chairlift midway station or mountain station. The starting point is the Seetalhüsli.

Via ferrata duration: 30 to 45 minutes each

Length: Cable length 120 meters each

Height in meters: 60 each

Exposure: North

This via ferrata is located in the idyllic area between three mountain lakes on the Hochjoch, and is the ideal practice via ferrata: Warm up your muscles, practice your via ferrata climbing skills – with a mountain guide, for example – and learn to get a feel for your own abilities. The starting points for routes B, C and D can be easily reached from the ascent. The beginner’s climb, with difficulty level A, begins at the Seetalhüsli heading toward the Sennigrat chairlift mountain station.

Route D is exclusively made up of natural steps, meaning it is a demanding path and only suitable for experienced via ferrata climbers. The short overhang at the upper traverse is the via ferrata’s crowning glory.

Descent: 30 minutes

The return hike either follows the cable along Route A (please be aware of climbers coming in the other direction) or goes via the beaten path that leads over the mountain ridge. At the Seetalhüsli, a well-deserved platter of traditional cold cuts and cheeses awaits you. And for those of you with energy still to burn, hop onto a stand-up paddleboard and row off into the sunset.
